Stories From the Brooklyn Scout Camps
Christmas
Morty Fink
Traditionally, Christmas is December 25. But
not in 1952 at Kunatah. It was celebrated on July 25.
Empty milk crates were wrapped as if they were gifts
and placed beneath a pine tree near the flagpole that was draped in
willy roll and empty painted #10 cans. One of the many signs
posted around camp was: "Merry Christmas - Santa Has His Basic Emblem -
Do You?"
Christmas carols were heard being sung at
campfires. And all this
in a kosher camp.
