Museum Program Director

​

Subject Specialist who educates museum visitors and members about collections and artifacts.

 

  1. Develops interactive programs designed to engage visitors about museum displays.

  2. Acts as museum receptionist and prepares reports regarding collection activities and condition of objects and monitors security by surveying visitors.

  3. Assists in deciding which objects to choose for display and coordinates museum openings, and organizes special viewing of collection, based on audience, and assists in implementation of public programs such as merit badge workshops, and preparation of educational materials.

  4. Independently identifies and solves collection conservation problems including poor storage materials, problems with prints, insect infestations and dirt/dust problems. Takes care of packing, unpacking, transportation of artifacts by cleaning and, setting up and, assembly of storage areas for collection according to curatorial standards as needed.

  5. Oversees museum trading post, prices merchandise, maintains computerized inventory system; prepares budget and maintains cash reports; designs posters and cards for gift shop.

  6. Makes decisions regarding what acquisitions to select, register including overseeing documentations records and cataloging, preserving, storing and evaluating museum objects according to curatorial standards.

  7. Conducts research in identification and interpretation of museum collections objects and collections history by researching database of collection pieces; retrieving relevant information and preparing research documentation and responds to inquiries regarding collection from museum members and visitors.

  8. Designs and/or consults with technical personnel regarding data base changes, development or enhancement for file management and retrieval through data entry and editing.

  9. Maintains computerized management system regarding all information on collection pieces; updates information as required.

  10. General day to day operations including lassie with volunteers, trustees, camp and community groups.

 

Museum Assistant Program Director

Performs routine work under specific instructions from Program Director connected to museum activities and operations.

 

  1. Strong work ethic, dedication.

  2. Leading visitors through exhibits.

  3. Maintaining and report pertinent data about buildings and surroundings conditions security, safety and fire protection.

  4. Coordinates museum openings, and other special events for campers, and local scouting organizations.

  5. Takes care of packing, unpacking, transportation of artifacts by cleaning and, setting up and, assembly of storage areas for collection according to curatorial standards as needed.

  6. Network with other museums and historical societies.

  7. Clerical tasks.

  8. Oversees museum trading post, maintains computerized inventory system, maintains cash reports.
