Religion (Karl Bernstein)

I was a camper in the NEW D-3 (Kunatah) mess hall in 1946 when the camp was brand new. The mess hall had not yet been stained and the wood had it's light natural color.

This was a kosher dining hall. I recall that we said grace in Hebrew both before AND after each meal. On Friday evening, the Rabbi's wife would light candles in the mess hall and cut a challah. Year later, when I was on the D-1 staff, Rabbi Goodman would invite the older staff (above 18) to his cabin on Friday evening where his wife would make a small kaddish. How we loved that sweet wine!
